LastMinute Street Crew

Hi people ! It's a pleasure to see you again :)

It's been a busy week for me. I'm preparing class' musical drama, dance concepts for DBL competition, and also dance cover for my friend's birthday party.
Feeling so stressful at the moment ~
I do need rest ! :(

Anyway, blogging is one of my way to relieve my stress. B) *happy happy*

This time, I'm going to tell you informations about my country's top dance crew. Although the origin of hip hop comes from Africa-American people, Indonesian people had developed their ability to dance to hip hop, too.
What I'm going to discuss here is Last Minute Street Crew.

With their basis on Surabaya, East Java, they become well-known for producing great arts, dancers, and achievements which become the representative for other dancers. Their members are not just teenagers, but also kiddos! One of the example is Brandon de Angelo, the participant in Indonesia Mencari Bakat, TransTV. Although he is still 8 or 9 years old, he is a great dancer. He can do either hip hop or breakdance. Of course Brandon's success is not separated from his own talent... and added up with the support of his friends in his dance crew.

They were established to break the MURI record for the longest hip hop performance, 150 minutes, on May 29, 2009 at SIBEC Convention Hall ITC Mega Grosir, Surabaya. The show with the theme MAGIC OF ART collected the numbers of two thousand people, enticing them to participate celebrating Surabaya's 716th birthday. Ferdi Jonas Hamdani, as the coordinator of the crew, hope that the hip hop dance will be more attractive for youngsters and the moral value can be effectively given to them. At that celebration, Brandon was given the tribute as the youngest hip hop dancer. The concept is about Semmy and Edo, unified bestfriend who have an honorable dance community in town. Semmy grew into a talented dancer, which made him arrogant, while Edo kept himself low-profiled. Edo had always been humble, and ready to help Semmy whenever he was needed. Until one day, there was an anarchist dance crew who asked Semmy doing the battle. His wounded ego made him show himself off. Edo wanted to prevent it, but it was no use. When the anarchist dance crew wanted to beat Semmy up, Edo protected Semmy and caused him fainted after being hit at some places.
Ferdi said that he was happy to be able presenting such fully-valued performance on the event.

Two days ago, I'm having a kind of interview with Musa LMSC, the manager of the crew. Below, you can read the results of the interview! :D

How come was the Last Minute Street Crew made?

It is started in 23rd of March 2005. At that time, we want to participate in a competition at Tunjungan Plaza, Surabaya. We make this dance team (Semmy, Fer, Patrick), but since then, the team had grown to become like what it is now, approximately 25 members active.

Who is the leader of the crew?

Our leader is Semmy Blank. He once was a rapper from Malang, East Java. Formerly, he thought his vocation was to become a rapper. But one day he participated in a dance workshop in his community. Since then, he realized that his vocation is to become a dancer.

What are the achievements achieved by Last Minute Street Crew? Can you please tell us some story about that?

Well, I can't tell that since we got too many stories, haha. Each competitions had its own impressions toward us, anyway. Since 2008, we have won many competitions. For example, 4 times National Champions Let's Dance, GlobalTV in a row, breaking the MURI Record for the longest hip hop performance... It is 150 minutes~ Yeah and... 5th place World Supremacy Battlegrounds Melbourne, Australia. 2nd place Code Edge 3 Asia Final 2010 Singapore. 1st place Juste Debout Singapore hip hop category, and many more! For more details, you can visit our homepage. *click on BLUEBLUEBLUE items*
It hasn't been updated though, but still you can see our efforts back then before the 2012. :)

Wow! You guys have wonderfully represented Indonesia abroad! :D By the way, what is your opinion about the real hip hop dancers?

In our opinion, the real hip hop dancers have always wanted to make efforts in order to grow better and better. They must be humble, too. The real hip hop dancers must be able to create new concepts, new arts, new choreographies... and NOT imitate others' creation.

Okay, I see. :) And how about your motto? And also please tell us your criticisms and suggestions for many dancers out there.
Our motto is : We are not the best, but we wanna do the best. We are nothing, but we wanna do something. We've been clinged onto this motto, so we're able to keep ourselves humble yet useful for others, especially for our country. Our suggestions... Hmm... Keep in spirit to develop the dance skills and the characters for the progress of Indonesia's dance art. Bottomline here : hip hop.

So that's it ! Hope that dancers who read it will be encouraged to learn more and dance more :)
Here, I want to give you the videos of them during the competition on World Supremacy Battlegrounds Melbourne Australia 2011. The concept is similar to the performance on Blobby Nippon Paint Dance Competition. I want to put the Blobby video here, but it seems that Blogger rejecting me :(
Take a deep look ! ;)

I like it so much. :) The concept, the techniques, the power, it's just all perfect. Someday I hope I can learn directly from them ! What do you think about the dance?

K-Pop Phenomenon Cover 2

Bump bump into you guys again!

This time, I will continue the previous post. Still about the dance cover.

For a couple of days, some friends told me that dance cover is not that interesting. Their point is that it was just imitating others, which sometimes called BITERS in dance world. What I'm print-thick here is that Dance Cover do not bite!

I mean, yes, they do imitate, but they admit they imitate. Biters won't admit that they imitate, will they? ;)

And about the opinion that the dance covers aren't cool is just completely wrong. I found myself that doing the dance cover is pretty hard. You just look onto the video and try to imitate it. The art is how you imitate without the video being slowed down or mirrored. Though it's more appreciative to see someone's making choreography by themselves, but doing the dance cover has its own attractions.

It's quite challenging! Try it! ;)

Repeating from the previous post, the Korean billboard and surveys prove that most of female dance teams love to cover the songs of these Korean girlbands.

Miss A (fandoms : Say A)
Girls Generation a.k.a SNSD (fandoms : SONE)
Kara (fandoms : Kamilia)

Some fans said that the reasons why they choose those three girlbands above because the song is nice and catchy. Second, the music is well-synchronized. Third, the dance steps seem hard, but when you look deeper into it, it's not as difficult as it's seen. Anyway, from those three girlbands above, I once do the dance cover for Girls Generation, Gee, for my school festival and big crowds applaud us! :3
It encourages me to do more dance cover for Kpop's girlbands or boybands!

Here are the details you might want to know about the girlbands I listed.

GIRLBANDS : MISS A, GIRLS GENERATION, KARA

MISS «

Commonly stylized as Miss A is a four member of Korean and Chinese girl group based in South Korea. They were formed by JYP Entertainment and are manage by AQ Entertainment. The group consists of Fei, Jia, Min, and Suzy. Fei and Jia are considered two of the four best recognized female celebrities of Chinese origin active in the South Korean entertainment scene, along with F(x) Victoria's Song and fashion model Wei Sun.
Their fist title song, "Bad Girl Good Girl" show their acrobatic dancing ability off. Miss A's seductive dancing sprawled on the floor in their famous single "Goodbye Baby" has ultimately brought them to the top.  Recently, Miss A announced their comeback in Korea with their mini album called "Touch", which is confirmed to be released on February 20, 2012. The first music video teaser featuring their youngest member Suzy, was uploaded on Youtube channel on February 13. Six days after that, the official Touch music video was put on Miss A's official account and gained over one millions views in two days!

GIRLS GENERATION (SOSHI) «

Girls Generation is a nine-member South Korean pop girl group formed by S.M Entertainment in 2007. They are also referred to Soshi or SNSD as the abbreviations of their Korean name. The leader of the group is Kim Taeyeon and the dance lead is taken by Kim Hyoyeon. The other members are Jessica Jung, Sunny, Tiffany, Kwon Yuri, Choi Sooyoung, Im Yoona, and Seohyun.
The nine-girl of this girlband became an Asian music sensation with their combination of cute yet seductive dance choreography and simple yet catchy beats. Their initial success began with the release of their first EP, "Gee". Next, the girls have continued to make consecutive dance hits with songs like "Tell Me Your Wish" and "Oh!" enticing viewers with their attractive figures and addictive dance steps. The music video "Oh!" was made the sequel which has a complete different dance aura from its previous: "Run Devil Run". It is also dubbed as Black Soshi.
Their recent song, "The Boys" achieved an all-kill status on all major on-off line music charts in Korea. Setting their sights on international market, the girls signed a contract with Universal Music Group under Interscope Records. The song was written, composed, and arranged by Teddy Rilley, who was Michael Jackson's producer.

KARA «

This girlband who consists of 5 members, Park Gyuri, Han Seungyeon, Jung Nicole, Goo Hara, and Kang Jiyoung, signed with DSP Media. The band name Kara comes from Greek word : chara (chara) which the group interpreted to mean sweet melody. Expectations for the group to be as big as their senior labelmates Fin K.L were extremely high and the members were promoted as successors to them. Their official fandom is Kamilia, derived from combination of KARA and latin word of family (familia). Kara's official balloon color is pearl peach.
One of K-Pop most visible faces abroad (esp. in Japan!) secured their first number one ranking on Japan's Oricon music chart with their booty dancing in their hit song "Mister". With their tightly cropped shirts and baggy pants, the girls were able to further emphasize their hip-centric movement. The butt dance, which is shown prominently in the music video, is now becoming their signature move.
Also in their second title song, "Honey", Kara gained a huge crowds following their honey-licking dance. Kara's new single, STEP is ranked at number eight on Billboard's K-Pop Hot 100 this week.

Oh and by the way, do you pay any attention to my blog's title? «
YES! I've changed it. My inspiration comes from my dance friend, Jerina, who put this on her bluetooth device name. I think that's good and impressive. Hip for hope as for hip hop. :)
I like my new blog title. How about you? :D

K-Pop Phenomenon Cover

Thank God It's Friday! *nowplaying : Last Friday Night-Katy Perry* :D

Today, I happily dedicate this post to all Korean lovers around the world.
Well, I'm not a Korean lovers though, *I prefer Japan!* but I sometimes listen to Korean Pop songs (K-Pop) and I'm able to make a dance cover of it. :D

Nowadays, "dance cover" becomes a common phrase among teenagers and dancers. But actually, what's the meaning of dance cover?

When you cover a dance, it means that you imitate the dance choreography as similar as possible. It all began in celebration of "Visit Korea Year" , a committee hosted the 2011 K-Pop Cover Dance Festival this past March, proving that K-Pop phenomenon is here to stay.

At that festival, 1700 amateur contestants (no dancers!) from 64 countries submitted video files online. From that pool, 66 contenders from 10 countries were nominated to perform at the final competition concert in Seoul, South Korea.

Moon Chang Ho, the Executive Producer of the cover dance festival stated, "The cover dance boom has created a platform for fans from all around the world to actively participate and enjoy K-Pop. Therefore, it's helping expand K-Pop as a truly international form of social entertainment."
And yes, I do agree since I always think that dance unite people, even if they are NOT dancers! :D

Dance is the hidden language of the soul.
Martha Graham

K-Pop Dance Cover Festival

A survey conducted amongst the contenders (and also according to the recent Korean Billboard) found that the majority of the male dance teams favored SHINEE, SUPER JUNIOR, and BEAST.
While the female dance teams favored MISS A, GIRLS GENERATION (SNSD), and KARA.
*shoutouts to the fandoms : Shawols, Elfs, B2sts-B2uties, Say-A's, Sones, Kamilias!* :DD

What I'm disappointed of is that not only fandoms were made, but also antis-group. I mean, having idols is such a good thing, but do you need to be anti and mocked someone's idols?

Big NO!!!

Therefore, we should respect others' bias! B)
Below, I give you some informations about the characteristic of those most favorable boybands-girlbands' choreography. Maybe you are encouraged to do some covers, who knows? ;)

Boybands : Shinee, Super Junior, Beast.

SHINEE

Fair-faced boyband Shinee became famous throughout the Asia for their powerful yet precise dance moves. After gaining initial success in Korea with songs like "Miss, You're Beautiful", "Amigo" , "Ring Ding Dong" , and "Lucifer" , they continued to spread their fame throughout the world. Shawols must be proud knowing that Shinee is the first Korean boyband which is able to perform in Russia!
Their newest dance move : The Finger Break from Lucifer's video is now becoming their signature move.
The leader, Onew, is the lead vocalist of the group. Onew also starred in various musicals starting in 2010, debuting in the musical Hyeongjeneun Yonggamhaetda alongside singer Lee Ji-Hoon. Kim Kibum (stage name : Key) is the vocalist, lead dancer and the lead rapper of the group. Also known as the Almighty Key due to his triple threat in singing, dancing, and rapping. Before debuting with Shinee, Key appeared in Super Junior's Wonder Boy music video as an extra dancer. Key was casted for the Korean adaptation of the musical Catch Me If You Can in 2012. The other members are Jonghyun, Taemin, and Minho. Minho is a permanent cast member in KBS' team, and also has appeared as the male character in the Girls Generation (SNSD) music video : Gee.

SUPER JUNIOR

Super Junior is a multi-talented boyband which is continuing to rocket up the popularity ladder in Asia and Europe. No exaggeration that they will be the next K-Pop legend. They are well-known for their addicting beats with unique lyrics and highly synchronized dances.
Super Junior's song "Bonamana" topped Taiwan's most renowned music chart for an amazing straight 64 weeks at number one! And it is one of the most emulated dance covers, along with "Mr. Simple" and "A-Cha". Compared to Shinee and Beast, Super Junior has the most members. Prom15e to Bel13ve, the motto of the Elfs inspirated by the number of its members. The main members are 13 boys, while 2 others were added later after their first debut. Super Junior has occasionally joined bboy battles and performances throughout their career. Han Geng and SungMin, both trained in martial arts, often incorporate martial art-styled dances into their choreography. While the lead dancer, Eunhyuk and Shindong concerns more for the streetdance style. For example the song "U" is made by Shindong and "Don't Don" - "Marry You" made by Eunhyuk. They had made a breakout through their dancing style by co-operated with famous choreographer Nick Bass, who used to work for many worldwide artists such as Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake. Their Asian tour concert, SuperShow 4, will be held in Indonesia this April 2012. *Indonesian ELFs scream out loud!*

BEAST

Beast is the newest dark horse to reach for the distinction of representative K-Pop boyband. Jang Seung Hyung, who was a former trainee at YG Entertainment has all the correct dance moves to charm K-Pop fans. Songs like "Shock", "Mystery", and "Breath", are attracting a strong international music following with rhythmical chorus beats which are great to dance to.
Beast was selected as a PR envoy to promote the audition programme Global Super Idol, which pits finalists from Thailand and China against finalists from Korea. The members : Yoseob, Dongwoon, and Junhyung have teamed up to deliver a smooth R&B track for the MBC's new drama I'm a Flower, Too. Titled "Dreaming", the song expresses the man's longing for his lover, who abandoned him in reality, yet still frequents his dream. The song was co-composed and penned by Junhyung and Kim Hyun Woo. Beautiful Show, Beast's first world tour kicked off in Seoul on February 4, 2012 and continued on February 12th, 2012 in Germany, followed by England (London), Spain, America (New York, L.A, San Fransisco), Canada (Vancouver, Toronto), Singapore, Japan, Thailand, China, Taiwan, INDONESIA (March 17, 2012) Hongkong, and Phillipines. It is announced that Beautiful Show will go on until late 2012. Over USD $200 million is being invested in the tour. They said they will use the best video equipment, 3D effects, and also LED screens.

Here is the video of dance cover you may enjoy! :D

Jerkin-a-Gerkin, huh?

Holla ! Holla ! :D
Again, I'm posting this during a rainy cold night. This rain had brought me a lot of misery. Y' know, just like having dilemma or something whenever you hear the raindrops on your roof? Or somekind of sad like the grey clouds stay on top of your head. :(

Seeing today's title probably having you guys thought about annoying person? Bastards and pranks? No, no. That's not it. As the definition I'm taking from Cambridge dictionary, Jerkin  means "to make a short sudden movement". And yes, that's the point on how you do Jerkin! ;)

Originated in Los Angeles, the northern part of California, Jerkin is an urban dance style for the youth that's starting an epidemic around a nation. Evolving from the famous East-Coast juke dancing, Jerkin had spread its virus around the world after Ben J and Legacy made up a few funny dance moves.
After the dance moves were caught on, they decided to make a song to go with them, and finally the song "You're the Jerk" from New Boyz was born, while in the other place Audio Push wrote and recorded "Teach Me How to Jerk".

The album came out on August, 16th 2010 on Asylum/Warner. Their offical video on Youtube already has had 3,357,825 (and counting) views! Tons young people have posted videos of themselves doing the dance. The youth around the neighborhoods in L.A have come up with the variations of the Jerk.

The popular basic moves are SpongeBob, Reject, Pindrop, and Tippy Toe. There are no enough informations about the basics since it has been about moving the legs stankily. For example the Reject. It is quite similar to Running Man, one of the Shufflin basics. But you do it backwards. Put the heels back and sliding them forward alternately. Considered a bit of a hard feat for some, but can be accomplished with more practices.

I bet the New Boyz that their song and dance would become such a great hit!

As the Jerk culture continues to flourish, several new groups specializing in Jerk style are being courted and signed by major labels. Arista signed the group Rej3ctz, and the label is looking seriously at many other jerk groups that are flourishing on the internet.

When I recall about people I saw jerkin on videos, streets, and on competitions, there are some similarities in how they dress up. Jerk fashion style is skinny jeans, varying from the usual to the unusual colors and washes, considered a rejection of baggy pants style. Many elements of scene and raver used in Jerkin movements, such as bright and colored clothingtight pants, or novelty graphic tees. The Jerk-ers also wear hightop or retro shoesincluding Chuck Taylor and Nike hightops. Shoes may or may not be multi-colored.

Male wearing skinny pants are always considered gay *LOL* xD

Jerkin is basically hip hop and skater style rolled into one. The beats are hip hop and the fashions are the skaters. The beats is classified as hip hop because of the bass line. The fact that the dance is just as important as (or maybe MORE important than) the song is part of what hip hop is all about.

Hip hop became big business & had to be marketed far beyond nightclubs where it had begun.
But even hip hop was no longer traditional dance music, dancing never really left!
-Will.I.Am, Black Eyed Peas-

I personally don't like the music, so I thought I'd ask my mom what she thought. She didn't think that the "You're a Jerk" song was all that great. She loved the dance moves though. Maybe the record label thought that it was a great idea, and then it spread for some crazy reasons throughout the music community. These days, it seems as if the musicians write songs about anything, right? But again, as what I had written above, the success about the song is NOT for the lyric or the music itself but for the dance move. The New Boyz should be grateful to Ben J and Legacy after all....
Of course it is altogether possible that jerking will live out its cycle and vanish as quickly as it appeared. But for the moment, there is no arguing with millions of views that the Ranger$ and other Jerkin crews have racked up for videos and music recorded on bargain equipment and set to beats created with software that seems to prove that anyone with a laptop can be a star.

Well, that's all information for today!
Hope my post will be able to give you informations you need, and also encourage you to learn more about dance moves and genres these days! :D
I gotta sleep, because tomorrow I'll have a dance practice for the audition of school festival's performers. *yawn*
Please do comment below and also check my previous entry if you missed it by accident !
Enjoy ~

Doing the DOUGIE ~

First Kate Upton, a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, doing it. Then the first lady Michelle Obama was seen doing it, too!

The dance style is called Dougie Dance.
It is another type of hip hop dance generally performed by moving one's body in shimmy style and passing a hand through (or near) the hair on one's head. There is no defined way on how to perform the Dougie. Each individual performs with his or her own variation. The main point is not the technique, but the attitude you bring to the stage.

Everybody does it different. The way you do it defines you.
                                                                          - Rapper Corey "Smoove" Fowler , Cali Swag District -

The dance was originated in Dallas, Texas, where it took its name from similar moves performed by 1980s rapper, Doug E. Fresh.
In 2007, Dallas rapper Lil' Will triggered the movement with his hit "My Dougie". Then an individual who attended Texas Southern University returned home to Southern California and taught the future members of Cali Swag District the dance. Cali Swag District recorded the song "Teach Me How to Dougie" and filmed the music video in Inglewood, California during the summer of 2009. Subsequently, the video along with the dance went viral on Youtube.

The Cali Swag District

A different dance, also by the same name was made famous in the South West of England by Robert Donaldson of Gloucestershire. It was originally made by the king of pop, Michael Jackson. Although it never achieved national status, the dance became a craze in clubs around the country.
Its popularity grew over the next 2 years, but declined sharply when Donaldson left the country and enrolled at Kingston University.

When Montae "M-Bone" Ray Talbert was shot to death by unidentified gunman, the Cali Swag District spokesman, Greg Miller, complimented him for being the best at doing the dance. And how he always stood in the forefront during the tour.
To respect him, at the funeral, mourners did the Dougie dance for a tribute video. Talbert's grandma also did it as part of her eulogy.

M-Bone on the right side

According to the Cali Swag District, "We are not looking forward to making another dance move. The Dougie just picked up organically. We had no idea that it would become so popular nowadays."

In late 2011 and throughout 2012, people started to associate the Dougie with another dance crazes such as Cat Daddy and Jerkin. They often refers all the new types of hip hop dance under the name of Jerkin.

Nowadays, "Doing the Dougie" become a common phrase. The dance involved leaning from side to side along with a danceable music beat. Then, when we are feeling the beat, we can move our arms up or forward depending on the music rhythm. The signature of Dougie move is then inserted by brushing hair back and forth and also brushing the shoulder off to sort of get "fresh".

Kemba Walker did the Dougie

The popularity of Dougie Dance also infiltrated athletes and celebrities. The song and the Dougie has now become some sort of celebratory anthem in sports. In the NBA for example, John Wall did the Dougie while warming up before his debut home game with the Washington Wizards. The videoclip of this dance landed on Youtube and already had more than a million hits!

Next example, in the NFL, Braylon Edwards also did the dougie after a touchdown. Unfortunately he was later penalized for doing the dance. :(
But "doing the Dougie" has been repeated by many sports player around the world, which makes the dance move become more and more popular.

From the NFL and NBA, and even to college football, the Dougie has become a craze for sports and music fans. Various Youtube clips of people doing the Dougie have generated a lot of views and hits. Doing the Dougie is now more than just being cool and fresh. It has become a statement for celebrations, either in sports world, entertainments world, or even ordinary lives.

Well, that's my so-called-short explanation about Dougie Dance move. I'm looking forward to seeing your comments... and also your Dougie videos! :)
